Ukraine advocates are frustrated. But even Trump must follow public opinion. Pro-Ukraine communicators are still using a playbook designed for Dems, not for reaching the voters who influence Trump.
This is an important column. Too many Ukrainians are so upset by President Trump’s actions that they spend most of their time attacking or mocking him. As an American, I can tell you that Trump’s base supporters will always rally to his defense, so much so, that even when Trump is doing or saying something positive about Ukraine, his supporters remain turned off by past attacks. This is not rocket science. People are not going to insult Americans into spending billions of dollars. The key remains persuasion. The whole dynamic on Ukraine is opposite of the last few decades when the Left ALWAYS opposed American military action, and the Right almost always supported American support for our allies. There are some key reasons for this, but my point is that conservatives can be persuaded to supporting freedom - especially when it is the people seeking freedom who are willing to pay the price for it (unlike Iraq and Afghanistan). I have been very disappointed at the populist susceptibility to Putin’s propaganda - but they key to combatting that is truth - just like your documentary on the Russian war against Christians. Keep up your good work, Steve, You are doing the Lord’s work.
