Good News Sources About Ukraine
Most Americans don't know what to believe about Ukraine. Here are some folks I respect and listen to for information about Ukraine and Russia.
I have a lot of people ask me about good sources of news on Ukraine. Here are some of the folks I follow, talk to and sometimes join as a guest.
Perhaps the most entertaining place to find good coverage on Ukraine is Rock Rachon, a show on Polish TV - the second most watched English speaking news channel in Europe. Rock Rachon is one of their top opinion shows. Host Michael Rachon is witty, charming, very pro-Ukraine and always has a good angle. Kind of the antithesis of Tucker Carlson. One of my recent discussions with Michael.
TVP World - again from Polish TV - has more straight ahead news. Here is my most recent hit on TVP World.
Shelby Wilder is an old school war correspondent covering Ukraine in the mold of Edward R. Murrow or Marguerite Higgins. She and her producer/cinematographer Alexander Kulyk are not afraid to get into harm’s way at the front to bring good information back to the world. We sometimes cross paths in Kyiv.
Jim Geraghty at National Review does great work. He was here a few weeks back and I had the honor of helping him with a story. Follow him for the cleverly written conservative angle on Ukraine. Jim is the guy in the middle wearing khaki pants and a blue button down who looks like he is from DC.
The Wall Street Journal does a good job. Jilian Melchior in particular. Another impressive journalist I was able to meet when she was in Ukraine. She gets every detail of the story right. Count on her for solid reporting.
David Phinney does not write often about Ukraine, but when he does he writes well. I am biased because he wrote a great profile on the Ukraine Freedom Project for Politico.
Another good source for accurate information for conservatives - or anyone looking for fact-based, data-driven information on the war - is Luke Coffey at the Hudson Institute. I will let you ask him why he left the Heritage Foundation, but Luke is doing much better work at Hudson than anyone who is still at his former employer.
The Kyiv Post is also good, with a solid group of people covering the war. I know a few people there and find their opinion page of particular interest. Jason Jay Smart lives up to his name.
Similarly, the Kyiv Independent has a highly motivated team of people.
If you are interested in learning A LOT about the war, check out the Institute for the Study of War - highly detailed maps, troop movements, data, numbers… you can spend a lot of time at this website.
Twitter - perhaps you have heard of it - is a great source of Ukraine information.
JayInKyiv has 58k followers and deserves every one. He is an American who has been in Ukraine for years. He knows a lot.
Jay is my Twitter guru. Here is who he recommends.
